Sorry it has taken a while to get this out. We got internet the night before last, but by the time I finished checking back email, blogs, etc., I was pooped. So I was going to write yesterday morning while Briggs was at the Monroeville Kinko’s meeting his boss…but he didn’t end up having to go in and we ended up doing some stuff. So then I was going to write last night while he was at his first night of work…but I ended up doing…pretty much nothing. I planned on maybe putting some stuff away and maybe writing a blog, but instead I wandered around, goofed off and read…um…something that was most definately not Harry Potter Fan Fiction.
But Brendan insisted I write a new blog.

So, Brendan–this one’s for you.
I am still picture-less (new pics that is) and I apologize. I need a new desk and monitors so I can have my computer and photoshop.
So you will have to use your imaginations. I’m sorry. I know that it hurts.
WELL…
Last Thursday we started moving stuff in. It was, of course, a way hotter day than the whole week preceding it, seeing as we were lifting, carrying, trudging, schleping and so on. We got the majority of our boxes in by late afternoon, then went and met Briggs’ dad so he could take us to see a sofa that a friend of theirs had for sale–brand new microfiber sofa still wrapped in plastic…she couldn’t fit it through her door. She sold it to us at a loss (friends and family discount thing…even though she didn’t know ME) and later that night (8:30 or so) we went with Briggs’ sister Burgandy to pick it up in her F250. We stopped at Starbucks (totally a mistake that late at night) then picked up her husband Barry, and took the sofa to the apartment.
THEN we went to our pod to put the stuff that was too big for Briggs’ car into her truck — you know, like…my giant bed. By the time we got done putting stuff in the apartment we were all exausted and it was about 12am.
So we went back to Burgandy’s to get our car and headed back for a good sleep (that I didn’t get due to afore mentioned Starbucks) at Briggs’ parents’ house. My cat continuing to take up vast acres of space on the bed (somehow…she’s not that big…I don’t know how she does it!) didn’t help either.
We woke up on Friday Morning (unhappily. Caffeine, I have learned REALLY DOES make you be awake! Who knew?) to get ready for the first face-to-face meeting with my counselor at the art institute, Monica. First I got to meet with a financial planner(I keep hoping they’ll forget and just let me go for free, damnit!)…and I could tell it was an art school ’cause he wasn’t much older than me (I refuse to accept the possibility that he might be less old) and had pointy hair, a t-shirt and tattoos. Then the eternally enthusiastic Monica gave the school tour, which WAS pretty cool. Then she sat us down and gave us a booklet full of cool things to check out in Pittsburgh — museums, clubs, resteraunts…then asked if there were any types of food in particular that we liked or were looking for and proceeded to give us a full rundown of of her favorite resteraunts for all different kinds of food and what they serve and how to get to them and even finished by walking us out and pointing out the Thai place behind the school that she says is great (we haven’t gotten the chance to go there yet).
I then tried to kill myself with a bagel, but that’s another story for another day.
We went and got the remaining 3 boxes out of the pod and moved them into the apartment.
We went to Briggs’ parents’ house and collected our cat and cleaned up our room (or maybe we did that and THEN got the boxes…I don’t remember)
At some point during this day we also picked up a convection microwave (our gas isn’t on yet) and a TV.
Around 2am when everything was set up and we were starved, we drove over to the Strip District (which does not have strippers) and got a pizza from one of the at least 3 open pizza resteraunts.
We went to the apartment and ate pizza and then for the first time in a few weeks, actually slept a) not in a car and b) not on a tiny full-sized inner-spring mattress that my feet fell of the end of (and I’m not that tall) and was not big enough for the two of us and Mercury…who, of course, feels that she has first right to the space and we can have whatever’s left over.
The rest of the time up until now has been a mishmash of setting stuff up, shopping for stuff we need and so on.
We have the old book cases from the living room set up, and shelves on the walls of our kitchen so we have at least a little bit of somewhere to put stuff. We have a small tall wooden table and a step stool from Ikea and two swivel bar chairs from Bed Bath and Beyond, and a velvet-covered wrought iron vanity stool from Ross that Mercury curled up on and shed all over first thing.
We went to dinner at 1:30am in an all-night diner on the Southside the other night, where the food was inexpensive and delicious and they have Greek food on their menu and I discovered that pancakes are great with Tzedzeki sauce. Which I have no idea how to spell. We went to dinner night before last at 11:30pm at an Italian place on the Southside, where the food is rich and tasty though not quite as inexpensive as at the diner. It was 11:30 on a tuesday night and the air was warm outside and people were passing on the street with regularity, some power walking, and others dolled up for the clubs.
We bought food at Trader Joe’s yesterday so now we have real food in the house, to some extent.
Briggs had his first night of work last night and I spent my first night here alone. I enjoyed having a little time to myself for the first time in weeks…but I also missed having friends to call and hang out with.
I am reading Harry Potter to Briggs and we are in the middle of book 4, which is so much better than the movie.
My cat has discovered the hole in the bottom fabric of the box spring and now likes to climb up inside of it and sleep. Weird cat.
The weather today is windy and overcast, though I don’t know what temperature it is, as I haven’t been outside yet.
I miss you guys! Come visit me!
