*sniff* (spoiler free)

Wow.  I can’t believe the series is over.

(In case you are, for any reason, unsure what I am talking about:

)

So yeah, as I assumed, I (probably much like half the people in this country, England and…wherever else they read HP…probably EVERYWHERE) I got very little productive done while I was reading Book 7.  But there are some things that are just important.  And seriously…everyone else was reading it too, so the world probably came to half a standstill for a few days and I just didn’t notice ’cause I was reading.

Anyway, from the time I started reading, every spare minute and many that weren’t (see my previous post) were absorbed in the pages of the above pictured golden book which I finished around 4am this morning.

All I can say (and all I will, to keep from spoilering anyone) is OH MY GOD.  I mean seriously.  DOOD.

I was, as many people probably were, a bit worried that she might have run out of steam by the last book, or thrown together some crappy easy ending where everyone who died comes back and everyone loves everyone…I don’t know.  It was the LAST book.  I was worried it might not live up to it’s predecessors.

Oh me of little faith.

I don’t know why I was concerned.  I feel that J.K. Rowling has proved her prowess and I don’t know why I doubted.

I’m sure that there are probably people out there that will disagree with me, people who will claim that her writing went downhill after book 3 or some such rot…but in MY opinion, she’s a bit of a genius, to create books with such an amazingly wide appeal and such an interesting and, well…epic story.

And the last book is, in my mind, NO exception.

It kept me wondering all the way to the end.  I was on the edge of my seat time and again,  and near tears (both happy and sad) more than twice.
There are many scenes that almost make me  squeal thinking about them, and others that break my heart.

And I can’t believe it’s over.

My throat constricts and my eyes shine in the same manner that they do when any amazing thing that I have had the privelage to take part in has come to a close.  The fact that this was just a series of books makes no difference.  At least half my life, I am sure, has been lived within the pages of books, and I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this bitter-sweet aching today.

Thank you J.K. Rowling, for writing such a wonderful series, for creating something that has dragged people of all ages into bookstores, for envisioning something that spoke so strongly to something in so many, and drove  me to wax poetic about your prowess in my blog.  I hope your writing career is not over, and look forward to your next creation with excitement in my heart.

I haven’t much other news to report…really been reading mostly for the past two days.  I had my second interview at Starbucks yesterday.  I find it very frustrating to have to have 2 interviews and answer countless inane ‘behavioral’ questions (what is a challenge you have faced in your work experience and how have you dealt with it?  Describe a time you saw a co-worker do something they weren’t supposed to and what did you do?) and just hope I have told them what they want to hear, and smiled and acted perky and forthright.  Seriously.  I mean, it’s STARBUCKS…they pay a fair amount less than any job I have had in years, and I could do the work with my EYES closed.  I have had soooo much experience in Starbucks-esque jobs (food service, customer service).  To put so much effort into an interview process for such a silly little job is just…so lame.  And at the same time, I have to act like I really care about their stupid questions and hope I have answered them right, when what I really want to do is march over to that interview table, sit down and say, ‘Look.  I would be an asset to your team.  I have loads of experience in this and I am good at it.  You want me to come work for you.  So lets cut the crap and NOT go through more behavioral questions than they ask in the application process at the CIA, and just hire me already.’

The thing is, some places they would see that as spunky and go-getterish….other places, impertinent.   And places that ASK you that many stupid questions in the first place are far more likely to be in the second camp.

Last night we went to Burgandy and Barry’s for dinner and she made yummy meatloaf and cornbread and salad, and I told her about my trip and other stuff and an old friend of Barry’s stopped by with his teenage daughter and we ended up chatting about Harry Potter ’cause they are listening to Book 7 on CD in the car, but they were right near the beginning, Harry’s 17th Birthday party.  I was a little further in.

Briggs got called in to work, so I spent the night (obviously) reading.

And now I need more tea.

In other news, this is on my wishlist:

Pretty cool.

Later, ‘taters!
