Soooo.
It’s Saturday.
We had no plans. Well…we had plans, but we woke up to a rainy forcast, and even worse, rain. We called Burgandy to see if she wanted to go sit in a coffee shop but she wasn’t around.
We puttered around the house. Briggs did dishes, I cleaned the catbox. Exciting.
I wanted to get out of the house.
So I suggested we go driving, check out Fox Chapel (the rich area). We did…it was a beautiful day with sunlight and the beginning hints of fall tinging the leaves gold and red.
By the time we had driven around for a bit, it had cleared up a bit, so we decided to go hike in the park after all. It was gorgeous (if a bit muggy…eww…neck sweat) and I picked wildflowers and made a pretty garland, then offended my boyfriend’s sensibilities by putting it in my hair, potential bugs and all.
We walked back through Regent Square (the area near Frick Park) and stopped to get ice cream on the way. After eating refreshing raspberry sorbet, I grabbed a City Paper (our version of ‘The Bohemian’ or ‘The Village Voice’…free ‘pulse of the city’ type paper) and perused the events calender only to discover that there were two gallery openings happening that night (woohoo free food!)!
The first was in Lawerenceville. We showed up, resplendent in sweaty clothes (and in my case, a very random garland of wildflowers…I can say honestly, I was the ONLY one wearing one of those) and proceeded to mingle. It was was a local young people/urban art type thing …they had cookies, potato chips and Australian wine. Some of the art wasn’t bad.
Ok…some of it was pretty good. But some of it also wasn’t. Gives me hope of the ‘well, if the person who painted THAT has a gallery show’ variety.
The second one was actually practically in our neighborhood–in the North Side, just across the park! After parking, we discovered a coffee shop run by this super sweet lady named Tera with great chai and UNBURNT espresso…yummy! The show itself was an exhibition of concert posters by all different artists….SUPER AWESOME! Some bands I was familiar with, others not so much. Tons of posters, some GORGEOUS work, and also lists of who did what and how much they are charging for prints. I had no $ with me, but the list had email addys and I took one home in hopes of later contacting a couple of the artists for prints.
Anyway, then we went home and I still have plant pieces in my hair (not to mention sweat) but I think it’s about time for popcorn and cuddling on the couch.
Later all!
