An update from a few days past

Sorry I keep sending out older update…hard to keep up with the writing and illustrating and everything else as well.  In accordance, this will be slightly less graphic, and the following one, not at all.

Hopefully more pretty updates soon.

On to the trlog.

It’s been a busy couple of days.

On Saturday morning we woke up early and went to the Strip District market – a big street market that they have every Saturday morning, where you can buy tacky hats and homie gear, side-by-side with fresh fudge and canolis.

We wandered around, found a couple asian markets that totally sell Pretz, Pokey and what’s got to be at least 1/3 of the tea in China, bought fudge, sweated, and wandered downtown to Starbucks with a couple of rental guides.

We found one place that was literally about a block from where we were sitting.  It’s in the heart of ‘Theater Square’ – the theater next door is performing both ‘Avenue Q’ and ‘Sweeney Todd’ (two shows I’ve really been wanting to see) in the next few months.  It’s across the street from resteraunts and cafés, across the bridge from 3 Rivers stadium where they light off fireworks every time the Pirates win a game, and just a few blocks from my school.

The inside MAY be a hell-hole.  As it is still the weekend, we haven’t yet gotten to see it.  We have our fingers crossed.

That night we took Briggs’ Dad and Stepmom to Breuster’s (a local ice-cream shop), where I got a Sunday sugary enough to send me into an instant diabetic coma.  Yummy!

Yesterday, we went to Laurel State Park (the place where Briggs’ family reunion was) for Maycamp.  It was hot and humid and we mostly felt awkward and vaguely anti-social, but for all that, it was still fun.  We hiked to the ‘waterfall’ (really a rock dam…) and hung out for a few, but I mean…rocks, water…not a lot to do.  Fairly regularly traveled path on the weekend, so it wasn’t like we could even get some good poison-ivy inducing sex on.  So we stayed for a few minutes, I dangled my feet in the water, successfully walked across the dam and back without slipping off and dying, and then headed back.

TODAY, we went to Phipps Conservatory (giant greenhouse) and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was full of installments by Chihuly.  Allow me to elaborate…a while back, I somehow stumbled across the work of this artist who does fantastic glass sculpture installments in gardens…so he has very organic and colorful glass things that highlight/counteract/compliment the plants around them.  VERY cool work.  We had NO idea that his work was in at the conservatory until we went in, and were walking around when I realized that this art look rather familiar…  Sooooo accidentally got to see the work of an artist I had thought it would be awesome to see…yay!

 Some pictures of said installations:

(he did not make the butterflies.  They were real)

After we left the conservatory, we decided to head straight back to the house…a plan that was promptly derailed when we drove past PetSmart and I decided that I wanted to go in and see if they had any animals.  I was quickly and effectively hypnotized and trapped by the cute kittens within, which left me open and susceptible to the 7 or 8 month old Asian short-hair who is sweet, loving and needs a loving home!  I’m so in love with him.  Gorgeous.

Then we continued on our ‘straight back to the house’ plan by stopping at the Monroeville Mall, and then the Olive Garden for bottomless soup and salad.  We went around 5pm…BAD idea…creepy old-people dinner time.  There was a couple at the table next to us, kept complaining that their food was wrong and eating in a slow and disturbing manner.  *shudder*

Then we went to Best Buy to get an AV adapter so that we could plug Briggs’ Archos into the downstairs TV and we could watch PotC #2 (since he hasn’t seen it) and then go seen #3 tonight…but of course the guy at Best Buy was beyond clueless and totally told us something totally wrong.

Briggs got back from his second try a few minutes ago and told me something about whether his second try (Circuit City) was successful…but I don’t know what he said, ‘cause I was writing.

Anyway, 2morrow we begin the fun hunt.  I emailed a bunch of places today who wrote back with phone numbers and instructions to just call for an appointment.

Time to go edit photos.

I never have anything witty to end with either…L …but then again, my English teachers could have told you that…..
