Chicken Tonight

That’s what I made for dinner. Exciting, no?

Today was nice. I had the world’s shortest interview, but not because I walked in and the interviewer took one look at me and sent me packing…she just didn’t ask me any stupid questions about ‘a time I provided excellent customer service’ or ‘a challenging situation I have faced and how I have dealt with it’. Thank God. I hate those questions. All she did was tell me the basics of the job, ask me a couple of questions about what I know how to do, ask if I had any questions and let me know she’d be deciding next week and she’d give me a call. And not in a ‘don’t call me…I’ll call you’ sort of way. In a ‘I have some more interviews to give and once I decide is most qualified I will let you know.’

After my 5 second interview, Briggs and I went across the street to Starbucks where I got a Raspberry Mocha Frappaccino (which there is not a picture of online! wtf?) and an application to fill out while drinking my caffeinated sugar.

Then we went to Duquesne Light (pronounced, for some unfathomable reason ‘Dookane’), the local power company, to find out how much of a deposit I needed to get our electricity transfered into my name (when we moved in our landlord just put it in his so that we would have power until he got us the lease and told us to just take care of it after we got the lease…at some point). Online I had been told that I would have to pay a deposit and we were all fearing that it would be honkin’…but (after waiting over an hour in a small room with white trash and ghetto people and small badly-behaved children) we went in to see the guy who was setting us up and I don’t know…maybe it was the low ‘V’ of my neckline, but he was really nice and totally didn’t charge me a deposit. So now I finally have SOMETHING in my name. 2 years from now I’ll have credit! haha!

Then i got a library card. :)

Then we did a couple other things and decided that we were bloody hot and thirsty, so we went to Einstein Bros. Bagels and got lunch.

Then we went home and I started (finally) reading ‘Plucker’ by Brom.

Gorgeous book, gorgeous art, done like a children’s book but DEFINITELY for grown-ups…way too creepy and dark for children.

Then Briggs and I watched ‘Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen’ which was, believe it or not…pretty crappy.

Ehh. It was a whim.

Then I doodled while we watched The Simpsons:

And I made dinner and we watched BBC’s ‘Planet Earth’ about caves. (this is in Lechiguia Caverns in New Mexico…a cave system filled with elaborate gipsym formations caused by the limestone being eroded to form the caves by sulfuric acid.)

And we watched DS9

And now it’s time for bed.

Night all.

I had the world’s longest interview last week. They wanted to know all about my opinions of the juvenile justice system, and what my view on physical force in a corrections facility is. Then they asked about how I’d handle certain situations, why I wanted a job in this field, and what I felt the pros and cons of the job would be (as well as how I would handle the cons and turn them into positive things). I handled that all beautifully. It wasn’t until they came to the most banal of questions that I froze up. “What do you feel the finer points of teamwork are, and how would you contribute to a group work atmosphere?” I had to ask her to repeat the question several times, as it just wasn’t permeating into my brain. I finally gave some lame answer about how teamwork is about picking up the slack for your teammates, so that all points of the job are covered at all times, and that I always like to give 110% so that I’m never leaving someone else to do my work. Needless to say, I got a letter in the mail thinking me for my time, but saying that they felt that my skills were not quite what they were looking for, and to please consider applying agin at some point in the (distant) future.

This is going on so long, that I might as well turn it into a full letter.

Did I tell you about the eviction notice that we got at our apartment yesterday? I can’t remember… Anyways, We have been evicted, and the reasoning given was that it was according to paragraph 20 of the rental agreement. Paragraph 20 just says that management reserves the right to give 60 day notice of intent to retake the premises. So basically it’s a tongue stuck out and “because we said so.” I love it. I’m moving into your house next month, so I really don’t care. Your mother cut us a sweet deal, in exchange for some minor repairs around the property. I’m keeping your mural in the bathroom, though. That was my one stipulation. I;m very excited. It will be like I’m closer to you. Except that you’ll still be halfway across the country. You should move home soon. Although you can’t have the master bedroom. That’s mine.

Ok, this comment is almost longer than the blog. Love you!
