Science night in la casa del Ra

Last night Briggs and I watched a couple episodes of Richard Dawkins’ show, ‘The Genius of Darwin’.

Wow.  That guy seriously does not pull his punches.  In the very beginning of the first episode, he comes right out and says ‘I’m an atheist.  Deal with it.  There is no God.’  I’m so much more used to ‘Here’s some science and we aren’t even going to mention the religious signifigance or lack thereof’, but apparently that’s kind of one of Dawins’ pet peeves.  He doesn’t just not believe in God, he doesn’t think that people should be brainwashed and forced into religion from a young age when there is so much compelling evidance for evolutionand does believe that schools should challenge religious beliefs.  He took a high-school class to look for fossils to try to change their ingraned views on religion — A scene I found incredibly shocking because these were high school students, and some of them DID NOT believe in Evolution.  Color me surprised.  I hadn’t realized how many seemingly normal people believe that the world is 6000 years old and we were made with the poof of a magic wand.  Cereal.  I’m a solid Agnostic, but evolution is just…OBVIOUS!

Sorry…didn’t mean this to turn into a rant on religion vs science.  I haven’t caffinated yet.

Later skaters.
