Last week I realized that I was about overdue for a journal about what I’ve actually been DOING with myself, but had too much going on to write it…so, a quick* update!
*not really
Classes ended for me on the 19th and I am on a two-week break between quarters…and now I never HAVE to take a math class again, unless, I suppose, I go to grad school or something. Where, I hear, they make you take more math. But for my BS, I have to take one more math or science class…and seeing as I kind of love science, I think that’s the one I’m going to choose.

I got my grades back and despite the fact that they made me die a little inside, I got A’s in both of my summer classes (well…the Typography crap class was an A-, but my mommy says it still counts). What I think I should get impressive points for is the fact that, though I ordered my mathbook on Amazon, there were mixups and it never arrived. So, I had to get through the whole class w/o a book to call my own, photocopying problem pages in the school library and unable to check back in the chapter when I ran into sticky areas…and STILL got an ‘A’ in the class. (ego feeling properly fluffed)
I am going to be starting my three new classes on the 7th and have my fingers crossed that they are much better than those two.
I have been trying to get some stuff done in my off time, but considering that all that really comes out to is a couple of days a week when I don’t have school or homework, and have a ton of stuff I WANT to get done (and was recently reading a book that absorbed a bit of my precious time) I’m not as successful as I would like to be. I really need like…a month off of school, work and other obligations, to just work on stuff. I’ve gotten a few personal projects worked on but have piles more that I WANT to devote time to that I probably won’t get to before classes start again. Stupid stuff I have to do. Oh well. There’s always winter break.
<–I’m a busy girl.
One of the things that took up some time last week, however, was pretty cool–Anna (Briggs’ super cool cousin that lives next door) called me to let me know that one of her goats was giving birth. So I got to see a baby goat get born and take it’s first steps. My adorable quota for the day was filled up in an hour and everything else was just a bonus.
<– Not Anna’s goat…I didn’t get pictures. But it looks about the same– hers has some black spots on it’s face and legs.
Leaves are starting to change in earnest. They’ve been working on it since tips started tinging yellow and bronze in August, but each day I see more vibrant reds and flaming golds sneaking in. Stuff is still pretty green and I just hope that we don’t get a cold snap like the one last year that sort of aborted the colorful season. So far, so good…it’s been cool and damp and drizzly for the last couple days, but most of the week was perfect autumn weather…crisp and bright, blue sky and warm sun teased around the edges with a taste of chill…just enough to want a long-sleeved shirt or a light jacket.
And it still amazes me that while leaves are changing colors, wildflowers are blooming enthusiastically in green fields and along roadsides.
Work is…well…things continue down the road of corporate…newest rule: though customers have a month
to pick up THEIR special orders, employees have to pay for them within a week. So I no longer plan to place special orders for myself…under my own name.
I’ve been attempting to force my superiors to acknowledge my worth and appreciate me, but have gotten no signs that it’s working in the least. AND the new manager of our kids department hates me for some unknown reason. Or possibly because I am far more knowledgeable about her own department (to say nothing of the REST of the store) than she is. But she takes every opportunity to bitch at me about petty things, and passive-aggressively dislikes everything I do. Whatever. I get books at a discount and get to tell other people about books I love and get them to maybe buy them.
I have decided that when I’m independently wealthy and open a bookshop, I will run it like the owner of the Leaf and Bean does.
Today Briggs and I did laundry. This is indeed exciting, as I now have many clean clothes. Yay!
I’m craving protein today.
And as we reach the random thoughts, chores and cravings segment of our show, the audience realizes that pretty much everything of interest is already on the table. Tune in next week!
