Working in a bookstore has opened my eyes to a bizarre trend that I had been previously unaware of.
Everyone is familiar with the scads of celebrities that are inspired to put out their own clothing lines, perfumes and …I dunno…designer puppies?
Well, it seems that the literary world is suffering bleed-over as well.
In our children’s section we have books written by Steve Martin, Madonna and Julianne Moore.

We also carry novels by Pam Anderson and, I discovered the other day, Nicole Richie.

So, I can’t help but wonder, honest literary exploits, or just more fame-mongering, seeking out fresh markets? I read the Julianne Moore children’s book, and it wasn’t bad. It was a cute story about being a little different and realizing that’s not so bad. And Steve Martin has experience writing his own memoirs and a silly sense of humor that totally works for a kids’ book.
But I can’t say I’m sold on Anderson and Richie…I mean, they don’t come across as the the type of girls who have enough depth of intellect to write a halfway decent book…and I don’t mean that I want to see them crank out the great American novel. I’m not asking for Dovstoyeski or John Steinback here, just something entertaining and readable…and proper use of a thesaurus.
Thoughts?

I have the feeling that some of the ‘memoirs’ written by certain ‘blondes’ are not actually written by them. They probably pay someone to write something based on an outline approved by the star, then given the star’s name. Think about it, you’ve tried writing things, and you lose interest halfway through, and it never quite gets finished. Even professional writers get blocks. Do you really think that a girl with the attention span of a pea can write an entire book?
see, that’s what I was kind of thinking.
oh! but the thing is…these weren’t even memoirs…they were actual novels about fictional characters.
I love how Pam is naked on hers. I guess that she needed *some* incentive for people to buy her book…
haha! awesome.
Yeah, you probably write better than all of them put together
