kitteh update

If you are interested in the status of my injured kitty, read on.  If not, feel free to skip this.

<– not an outside kitteh anymore.

As I mentioned yesterday, Nova had some kind of owie on her side but I hadn’t been able to get a look at it.

Both Anna and my mom suggested that, based on the sound of things, it was likely a puncture wound–got infected below the surface and closed up on top, so sore and irritated.

Well, by last night it seemed to be a bit better, in that I could touch the area…and today, I went to touch it and it was no longer crusty…more…damp.  And smelly.  Really smelly.  As in, water alone doesn’t wash the smell off.

Anyway, it turns out that as is proper, infection has caused the hair in that patch to fall out, so I could see the wound.  When I told about the claw bit that was in her neck that I had to yank the other night, she told me that it sounded like my pretty girl had been fighting.  Once I saw the damaged area, it became pretty clear that she absolutely had…two nice, neat kitty teeth holes in her hide, and another, larger hole below it.

The whole area is gross and puss-y and a bit smelly, but I have been reassured that that is normal and the fact that it is open is a good sign and the infection can drain–also, Nova is totally perky and seems to be in hardly any pain, is eating and drinking and still wanting to go outside, having no trouble with movement or climbing on things…which is also a very good sign.  So, tonight I’m going to get Briggs to help me put some antiboitic ointment on the area, and we’ll keep an eye on her…but despite how icky things look and smell, she’s probably on the mend.

My Week Off

Last Thursday was my last class of the quarter from Hades.

I was happier about this until I got a B+ not only in Electronic Design, where I knew that my efforts were less than stellar, but also in my Art History class, in which I feel that any shortcomings were purely due to the teacher’s failures.

Sorry…not getting A’s makes me grumpy.

(Edit: Final Grades posted –

Graphic symbolism — A.  Electronic Design — B+.  Photography — A.  Art History — B+.  CGPA still 3.80)

Next quarter I am taking English Writing and Composition II, Economics (ugh.), Digital Image Manipulation II (Photoshop maybe?) and Graphic Illustration, which I am somewhat potentially excited about.

BUT

My break so far has been pretty darn nice.

–On Friday, I fully took advantage of not having to do anything all day…I slept until a truly unreasonable hour, then got up, goofed off on the computer for a little while, and then sat on the porch enjoying the lovely weather and reading for a couple hours before curling up on the couch to watch this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy.  After that, I hung out with Anna, and made dinner (sketti and clam sauce), and we all watched ‘They Live’ (bloody awful.)

–On Saturday, Briggs and I were planning on going to the Natural History Museum, but I dawdled, so we decided to postpone a little.  Instead, we went to Lowe’s and he bought desk making stuff, and he bought me seeds for flowers and vegi’s and herbs.  We came back and I went over to Anna’s for coffee, and then ended up joining her and her chilins for a sojourn to the mall.  When we got back, Briggs and I ended up going over to her house and having pie while watching Practical Magic, which is WAY better than They Live.

–Yesterday, Briggs and I went to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  I love me some natural history museums, and I guess the the CMNH has like…the world’s largest collection of dinosaur bones or something?  Whatever…it was fun and they had cool rocks and bones and animals of North America and Africa…dope.  When we got home, we had delicious rolled up meat with stuff inside and watched the second-to-last episode of Battlestar.  (Finale tonight.)

–Today I have mostly sat around in PJs goofing on the internet.  Pretty sweet.

Some less than sweet things:

Poor Nova has an owie.  We don’t know quite what it is, as she has long hair and won’t really let us touch it, so we can’t really see it…but it seemed to be bothering her a lot more yesterday…today she even let me feel around the area gently before she decided that she was done having painful stuff done to her…it’s kind of a large area (inch or two) and feels kind of like…a scab maybe?  But I couldn’t see a scab, so I’m not sure.  We’ll see.  Like I said…she seems a bit better today so hopefully she’ll be fine.  If she gets worse, we’ll take her to the vet.  Her outside privileges, however, are probably over.

One of the classes I’m taking this coming quarter is online (probably) and so I got emailed some info about online orientation, getting my books, etc.  I went to the website and glanced around a little, and at least from what I could tell, the set up seems much less than intuitive.  So, fun.

I have SO many dishes to do.  I got a pass for a couple weeks, ’cause I was working on finals, but now I’m on break, and have NO excuse.  So I kind of need to get on that.

Something just random:

I had been told that it could snow clear up until Easter, but what with the lovely springtime weather we’ve been having, I figured that winter was well behind us.

Until it snowed last night.

Yeah.

Not enough to cover the yard or anything, but enough to stick for sure, in patches and on top of logs and stuff.  Most of it is melted by now, but the temperature is still only 33.
