Busy weekend behind me, busier school week ahead of me, here I am stuck in the middle again.
I need more caffeine.
I spent the weekend doing homework, for the most part. Saturday didn’t FEEL that much like homework, which was nice –>I dressed Anna, Aaron and their children as Wonderland characters and we all ran around the yard doing photos and setting up tableaus…mostly, I was giving the children an idea of what I wanted and setting them off to play. The cool part is that I actually did some story boarding and costume design sketches a week or so, and a lot of what I got is pretty darn similar to my ideas. So, yay me! Overall that particular project did not feel like an arduous task in the least, though we shall see how I feel when it comes time to process the photos.
…of course, yesterday made up for unhomeworky feelings the day before by sucking massively. I would go into details, but as usual, I’m not as brief as I had planned to be and I’m sure that no one is really that interested in the details regardless…suffice it to say I was working on a rather annoying project that I didn’t like for a variety of reasons already when something went wrong in it somewhere and from then on, when I tried to save it, the program would crash. UN fun.
Other stuff…Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were also homework, somewhere between the two above mentioned tasks on the annoying scale. Not henious but not super fun either.
On the topic of super fun, however, Saturday evening, after photography and
such, Briggs and I went with Anna and Aaron to see…WATCHMEN! I thought it was distilled awesomesauce. Bloody, violent and gritty…but then, so is the graphic novel. There were a few scenes where storyline bits were moved around, reworked, compressed or skipped…but considering that the movie is about three hours long already, I certainly understand where a few nips and tucks may have been necessary. Overall, I felt that everything, from the casting to the costumes to the sets to the plot/writing were executed BEAUTIFULLY and would go see it again today if someone offered to take me. And if I didn’t have more homework to do.
So yeah, if you hated it…fine. That’s your deal. It rocked my socks.
Other various media notes…have been watching lately:
Skins: Recommended by Aub, BBC show about teens in public school and the troubles they have and get into…surprisingly good. Actually has a certain level of depth springing from the British non-prude outlook.
Black Books: More BBC. Hillarious. Bernard Black and I need to own a bookshop together. We seem to see eye to eye.
Spaced: Yet more BBC. Stars Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, etc.) and I’m still deciding whether it’s really funny or just rather strange.
Castle: Just the first epsiode so far…Nathan Fillion’s latest, where he has the same job the chick in Murder She Wrote did (mystery writer who solves real life mysteries) only in a somewhat more sleezy/charming way.
Dollhouse: I’m still deciding how I feel about this one.
More homework sits eagerly on the docket today…but this task is of the ‘curling up on the couch with a sketch pad and drawing designs out’ variety, which is my favorite kind of homework. ON that note….I should get to it.
