back to the salt mines

Back to school tomorrow.

This coming quarter I have Editorial Illustration, Fundamentals of Electronic Production and Dimensional Design.

Yeah…I know what the first one is.  The other two…?

This two week break has been pretty much what I wanted it to be…I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked, because there are never enough hours in a day to do everything I want to, but I got a few pieces of line art off my hard drive and into color, and am overall happy with how they came out…always nice to know that I didn’t entirely forget how to color in the two-and-a-half months between breaks.  I AM hoping to try to finagle in some art time this quarter between homework and all, but…we’ll see.

But what OTHER exciting things did I do on my break other than draw, you want to know?

Sorry…that’s about it.

Lets see…for the first couple days of break I sat on my butt and watched TV–after the end of my quarter I just needed to do nothing for a day or two…plus, my hand needed to heal after a night of fervent X-acto-ing.  I went to Penn’s Colony.  I made chicken soup.  I read Elantris and The Hero of Ages.  I did a photo shoot for Briggs’ cousin Melissa.  I got convinced to go up on a very scary partially assembled barn roof.  I cuddled my cats and started watching the utterly craptastic Vampire Diaries (which prompted me to re-read the series and realize that in this case, the show may be the superior of the two).  I went to Anna’s painting class with her.  Took the Kitten to the vet.  One time, I went to Target.  I somehow killed the media server’s CPU.   I went on a few walks but not nearly as many as the ‘one every single day’ that I had planned.  And today I took pictures while a tree in Anna and Aaron’s fron yard got cut down. Tonight, Briggs dyed my hair black so I can be in Shawnie’s wedding w/o magenta locks hogging all the attention.  (I missed black.)

But mostly, I sat at my desk while episode after episode of Rescue Me played on my right hand monitor, and colored while autumn arrived outside.

It was everything I could have wanted…and more!

Because tomorrow I jump back onto the fun insanity train.  I have my three classes on Monday and Tuesday, on Wednesday I try to do some homework and pack, on Thursday I fly out to California and spend the next few days being a brides’ maid and squeezing in a little quality time with a couple friends and family before I get back to Pittsburgh on Monday night.  I am sincerely hoping that the rest of the quarter isn’t spent playing catch-up for the second-week classes I’m going to miss, because, gosh-darn-it, I also need to get my calender together and maybe (please?) have some time for a few of my own projects.

Sorry if I sound like I am ranting/bitching/etc….and I suppose I am a little…but I am excited about the upcoming quarter…I have Mr. Bender again for my Editorial Illustration class, and I am looking forward to finding out what my other classes are about.  I’m excited to go to California and see people I miss, even if just a few of them briefly in a whirl-wind of activities, and I mostly have faith in myself to be able to catch up on my projects.  I’m just going to miss my free time…I have a ton more stuff I want to do that I didn’t have time to get to (I never baked cookies or cleaned, let alone got any writing done) and the end of last quarter was SO exhausting that I wish I could have grown moss for a few more days…but c’est la vie and tomorrow’s a new day full of school and the beginning of my 3rd year at AIP.

Wish me luck!
