nothing changes on new year’s day (also, calenders)

Ugh.

If I made resolutions at the turning of the year, I would resolve to blog more regularly. As I don’t, I can only promise to try.

The holidays are now over and in a few days I begin a new quarter of school.  I already know to expect a somewhat frustrating 11 weeks as, despite all oaths I made to the contrary, I will be taking another class from the art history teacher I barely survived when taking a class from him previously.  I have, however, resolved to this time bring it to his attention when he fails to cover materials he said he would, as the information he failed to impart was not in the book and was on his tests.

My vacation has been, overall, less than productive and often fraught with annoyance and frustration.  There have been enjoyable experiences, of course, but I believe that they were outweighed by the irritating.  Some examples include:

–Briggs taking a day off of work specifically so that we could get Robin G. neutered and the title on the car transferred into my name (tasks that are both long overdue and very necessary) only to be thwarted on both counts and end up spending the day in rather trivial pursuits.

–Me getting sick just before Christmas and Briggs getting sick just after, which he followed with a bout of food poisoning that made him sick all of New Year’s and for a day or two afterward, in tandem with the power supply in our television going kaput (overall, New Year’s Day was just awful).

–The all-around financial strife that comes of being young and poor.

…annd my extra-special Christmas adventure of getting to pronounce a rabbit dead and take care of disposing of it because the people who owned it were too squeamish to deal with the problem themselves (and after all, isn’t taking care of other people’s deceased pets what Christmas is really all about?).

And oh, yes…the charger for my phone broke today.  And my phone is almost dead.

I have also failed to do the thorough house cleaning I promised myself, as well as the outside chores that were going to tone my artist’s body, and aside from getting my calender put together, I have been overall uninspired and unmotivated regarding getting any new art done of my own…a lack that I am sure to be kicking myself for come the new school quarter when I no longer have time to pursue my own activities.

As mentioned, of course, there have been positive aspects to my vacation so far, despite the fact that my frustration today has left me in a less than sanguine frame of mind:

–Despite being too poor to purchase ‘real’ Christmas presents, I made a present for my sweetie that I believe he likes at least a fair amount–a digital painting for which he saw the unused concept sketch and expressed the hope that I would make the drawing into a finished piece at some point.

–My kitten, after a few weeks of being independent and standoffish, has returned to the path of cuddly with a vengeance.

–It has been snowing a lot over the past few days, covering the world in pristine sparkly fluffiness, and the cold of the weekend has diminished so now the outside world isn’t even quite as frostbite-inducing and the snow can be enjoyed without immediate loss of feeling in one’s extremities.

–Briggs and I went to see Sherlock Holmes, and made a whole date-night out of the experience…I even got dressed up in some pretty, Victorian-inspired duds, and felt like a bit of a princess for the evening.

I’m hoping to pull myself out of this rut before the week is over and actually contribute something to the world ere my return to school, but even if I don’t, I shall do my best to remember that this IS my vacation and that to fill every moment with projects and stress over getting them done does somewhat defeat the purpose of a ‘break’.  And heck, if nothing else, I know that I will have plenty of time to work on my own projects in my mind-numbing Art History class, so I haven’t much to worry about.

Until next time, which will hopefully not be very long after this time, ciao!
